The ProTee VX

The VX has arrived in our show room. We got it installed and started hitting some shots:

Comparing the data between the VX and GC Quad, it is really good! When using the multiple launch monitors I get some interference from the VX on some of the shots, which ProTee told me would happen when running the VX along side other units. The shots that are read correctly are acceptably close. There is always a little variance between launch monitors when I compare them. Carry distance, spin, ball speed vertical launch & horizontal launch is what I look at when testing. When using the VX alone the numbers looked really good to me!  I'm not a tour pro by any means but I've been using simulators for 10+ years and I'm pretty good at telling what my ball is going to do when I hit it. The VX showed the ball flight instantly and didn't miss a beat. The Labs software is laid out nice and runs fast. It was super easy to install and get up and running as well.

I have now had some time to chart the data with a 7 Iron. More shot comparisons to come.

The Uneekor Balance Mat:

The Balance Mat arrived at our showroom, and we got it set up and started to test. Thankfully it made it in one piece as it looks like UPS detoured through a war zone to get it to us.

The mat works seamlessly with the View software and the weight balance feedback is great with the percentage bars shown for your right and left foot. The pressure sensor for the weight distribution through your feet (toes/heals) is a little more difficult to interpret at first. The mat will also show you how far your feet are apart and if you’re square to the target line. It may tell some more stuff but we’re still getting used to it.

Unless you’re being instructed by a coach, or you are a golf coach the mat may be a bit tough to make the most of. The best way to use it would be to compare a pro’s swing that shows how he transfers his weight if you’re not taking lessons. Uneekor has added a pro’s swing in to the View software, but there is only one pro to compare to though, and he’s a no Namer for sure. There’s so many different swings out there I’d imagine some different pros swings may be more suited for different guys.  I reached out to Uneekor if they will be adding more pros to View to compare to but have not heard back yet. Like where is Cameron Champ?

What I don’t like about the mat is the cords. It was really a big deterrent for me on whether to purchase this thing. I didn’t want cables running from my PC across the floor to my hitting area, for it to be wireless or battery operated is a bit of a stretch and likely worse. I decided I’ll give it a shot as I found myself spending too much time thinking about it, I might as well just get it and be done (never done but done thinking about the mat). The cords also come out of the right side of the mat towards the hitting area if you’re a right-handed player, like wtf Uneekor? Why would you make them come out that side? The Engineer must be a lefty, right? If they came out the left side of the mat, they could run straight to the left side of your sim without having to 180° the cables and possibly cause a trip hazard. The cords are also a bit too short I find, and this doesn’t help. You can buy longer cords almost anywhere, but pretty sure the mat is expensive enough already. It could also be bigger, but bigger would cost more.

What I did discover which basically negates all this negativity is the mat works just the same if placed under your hitting turf. On top of the turf the mat sits approx. ¼ - ½” higher than your original turf. So technically the ball is below your feet. I did not find this too much of a hinderance, but level would be better. Who wants to hit off an uneven lie anyway right?

Having the Balance mat underneath the turf is a game changer for me, As I should never have to touch it, will have a level stance and be able to hide the eye sore cables. That mat will be locked in place with the foam tiles so no more sliding and having to readjust.

Is it big enough to have it stationary under your turf and still use driver & wedges? The answer is yes, but only if you’re willing to use your whole hitting area. If I use the farthest part of the hitting area with driver and the closest part for wedges/irons the mat does not need to be moved. So, this is what I plan to do. I will then level the mat and even if standing half on/half off the mat for some reason, you’ll never know. By not doing this I think I would find I am moving it all the time and eventually it would get moved to the closet. This way it is always there, and the data can always be seen along with the swing optix cameras which I am always using!

How I plan to level the mat.

I have a ½” foam underneath my turf which is our 1.25” SSG Tee Line Turf. So, I will be cutting away a perfect rectangle of the foam to lower the balance mat under the turf. The cables can then sneak out to the side underneath the turf, and no one will even know it’s under there. Will see how it goes!

UNEEKOR EYE Mini

The EYE Mini is the portable launch monitor from Uneekor. We brought one in to the showroom, not because we needed it, but because we wanted it! It also gives us an opportunity to demo it for our clients, and of course put it through it's paces. The Mini is good for more than a couple reasons, first it allows for sim golf in a tighter space, offers portability to take it with you when travelling, and of course use it on the driving range! It's can also be purchased with a subscription based model, which allows the user to get a quality launch monitor at a more affordable price point.

We lined it up and compared the numbers to the EYE XO. We have compared the EYE XO to the GC Quad extensively and for more than a year. The EYE XO is right on par with the Quad, so if the mini can show accuracy comparable to the EYE XO, it can be concluded it would do the same with the Quad ,maybe we'll test that as well!  EDIT we did that!

Below you can see the numbers we recorded on both units and how close they are, ultimately giving the EYE Mini a pass, and with some flying colors if we can add!
